Why blog, you ask?

I, Skarbs, HIKED the 3 highest peaks in Africa in January of 2012, all to raise money for the 3 "peak issues" in East Africa: Education, Health, and Environment. East Africa is a place close to my heart. I know the difference that love, belief, and understanding can make in this beautiful part of the world. Join with me as I REFLECT back on this amazing journey!

January 7th: Mt. Kenya day one

Doesn't it look like the "agrocrag" from GUTS? Anyone?
We'll start our ascent up Mt. Kenya today, and spend the night at camp at 3200m (our itinerary is all metric, so look it up in feet if you want to!).  Apparently we could see some monkeys and elephants on our first day hiking at the lower altitudes, which would be awesome!  I have my good camera with me, so hopefully I will have some creature pictures to share when I come home.

We'll continue up Mt. Kenya on Jan 8th and 9th, and then on the morning of the 10th- and by morning I mean 3am- we will begin our climb to the summit!  Summit is at 4985m, and we'll reach that height around sunrise.  Should be BEAUTIFUL.

Our team will start the descent after our summit, and will hike down 2 days.  Then a transfer back to Nairobi, where hopefully I should have internet again!

Love to all of you, this is going to be a sweet mountain!
