AS YOU READ THIS, HOPEFULLY I HAVE ALREADY BEEN TO THE ROOF OF AFRICA AND AM ON MY WAY DOWN....
January 26th we will wake up EARLY (really we'll wake up on the 25th) to begin our summit bid! We'll head out of camp around midnight and climb in the dark cold hours to reach the summit close to sunrise. This is the day when the altitude will really challenge us, hopefully we all have what it takes to reach the top!
We'll take 1.5 days to climb down, and then have a giant PARTAYYYYY in the city of Arusha to celebrate our entire trip. From here, our group will split up and head our separate ways. Some ladies are headed to Zanzibar, some are heading home, and I will be heading back to St. Judes to meet up with my Mom and Grandparents. January 28th there is a special naming ceremony happening at the school...more on that later.

"Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean."-John Muir
Why blog, you ask?
I, Skarbs, HIKED the 3 highest peaks in Africa in January of 2012, all to raise money for the 3 "peak issues" in East Africa: Education, Health, and Environment. East Africa is a place close to my heart. I know the difference that love, belief, and understanding can make in this beautiful part of the world. Join with me as I REFLECT back on this amazing journey!
Katherine you are in my thoughts and prayers in a special way today; safety and a life changing experience! I look forward to hearing more upon your safe descent.
