Why blog, you ask?

I, Skarbs, HIKED the 3 highest peaks in Africa in January of 2012, all to raise money for the 3 "peak issues" in East Africa: Education, Health, and Environment. East Africa is a place close to my heart. I know the difference that love, belief, and understanding can make in this beautiful part of the world. Join with me as I REFLECT back on this amazing journey!

January 21st: Mt. Kilimanjaro day one

The big kahuna. Tallest mountain we'll attempt to summit.  Tallest mountain I will EVER summit? Good possibility.
Epic.
We will spend 6 1/2 days on the mountain. The first two days will be "easy" with a gradual ascent up to the Machame Camp the first night, and the Shira Camp the second night.  A lot of people climb Kili, so I will be interested to see how crowded the trail really is.  I'm expecting some large groups, and tent cities at the different camping sites. This will be something different than I've ever experienced!

January 23rd my team will "hike high and sleep low" to help us get used to the altitude that we'll be experiencing as we get closer and closer to the peak.

Hopefully we all stay healthy and energized to keep climbing!
