Why blog, you ask?

I, Skarbs, HIKED the 3 highest peaks in Africa in January of 2012, all to raise money for the 3 "peak issues" in East Africa: Education, Health, and Environment. East Africa is a place close to my heart. I know the difference that love, belief, and understanding can make in this beautiful part of the world. Join with me as I REFLECT back on this amazing journey!

January 15th: Mt. Meru day one

Mt. Meru awaits us!

Just finished up spending 2 days at the School of St. Jude, and now off to conquer Mt. Meru!  By far the shortest of our peaks, Meru is deceptively difficult.  Rumor has it it's like a stairmaster the entire way up...there are no flat breaks at all!

We'll only spend 4 days on the mountain...on the 3rd day we'll make our summit bid in the early morning.  Hopefully (fingers crossed!) we have a clear day, because the top of Meru is one of the BEST places to see Kilimanjaro staring you down off in the distance.  Some nice sheer cliffs off the edge at the summit as well. My favorite!

On Jan 18 when we finish getting down off the mountain, we will head back to St. Judes for a special assembly celebrating our completion of the Mt. Meru climb.  Downside of going straight to the assembly from the mountain: we will all most likely reek of nastiness. Upside: seeing all the kids again!
