Why blog, you ask?

I, Skarbs, HIKED the 3 highest peaks in Africa in January of 2012, all to raise money for the 3 "peak issues" in East Africa: Education, Health, and Environment. East Africa is a place close to my heart. I know the difference that love, belief, and understanding can make in this beautiful part of the world. Join with me as I REFLECT back on this amazing journey!

Kilimanjaro Day 5

Sunrise. We're pretty high up.

Getting ready to break camp! Hello Kibo summit in the background.

Good morning Meru!

Clouds and rocks

Rock tower and Ema

ANTON! This guy was a beast, best porter ever.

Mangos, anyone?

Our trail for the day. Short, hike, easy except for the altitude and lack of short call spaces

Porters moving along the trail.

One of the other summits on Kili. Not the highest though.

Barafu Camp, meaning "ice camp". Where we stayed before summit night.

Sticker on the hut...I'm guessing from New Zealand. :)

View out of the mess tent.  It was WINDY that day.

Camp. I'm pretty sure I took this at the right angle...if everything looks like it's sideways that's because it is.

Did I mention it was windy? Windy enough to blow a hole straight through the side of the tent.

Mbise and Peter, tent repair crew.

Sarah, duct tape provider!

Katie and Vanessa, Loo tent rescuers!

The camp below us wasn't so lucky....lost 2 tents! Blew partway down the mountain before they could catch them.

Fortified Loo tent.

Me and Katie, with the summit behind the clouds
